The Secret Place Journal
Inspired words from the pen of a prophetic scribe.
These are the writings from Dr. Fife's Journal
drawn from The Well of His Presence.
January 12, 2008
It is clear to those who are tapping into the presence of
God and hearing His voice that 2008 is a year of new beginnings.
In October 2007, Eunice and I attended Bishop Garlington’s
conference in Pittsburgh. Chuck Pierce gave an incredible
teaching about the year 2008 and what it signified in the
Jewish calendar. He explained that even the Jewish number
eight when written looks like a gateway.
We began this year with a challenge to read a much larger
portion of God’s word every day. We started in the
front of the Book. While Genesis is the book of beginnings,
the Holy Spirit strongly impressed me that very early on
in history even God needed a NEW beginning. He was so saddened
by the depravity of mankind that he destroyed all human
life except for Noah and his family so that He could start
over again. If God needed a new beginning, how much more
do we?
I have been observing New Beginnings all through the Bible.
Abraham had to leave his family and land and start again;
Joseph was sold into slavery and had to begin again, David
had a new beginning when he killed Goliath. Talking about
new beginnings, Jesus had a supernatural resurrection. Paul
was stopped in his tracks on the road to Damascus and had
to start all over again. And of course, we cannot forget
Peter. After a terribly embarrassing failure, Jesus gave
him a new start. Hallelujah!
What about us? Well, God gave us a new beginning when we
were born again. But that was then. The good news is that
He is willing to give us a fresh start right now. He is
the God of the second-chance as well as the third, fourth,
and on. If you don’t believe it, ask those who have
failed in the Christian walk and have received God’s
abounding grace and mercy anew. Louis L”Amour made
an astute observation in one of his western novels, “There
comes a time when you think that everything is finished.
That will be the new beginning.” It is chaos that
gives birth to dancing stars. You may think your too old
to start again. An old English proverb answers that question,
“It is better to begin in the evening than not at
all.”
The secret of a rich life is having more beginnings than
endings. But entering into a new beginning requires some
special things, they are called VISION and PASSION. One
of my favorite authors, a French airplane pilot, fantastic
writer and philosopher penned these words in the last century,
“If you want to build a boat, do not instruct men
to saw wood, stitch the sails, prepare the tools and organize
the work, but make them long for setting sail and travel
to distant lands.” (Antoine De Saint-Exupery)
May this year mark a new beginning of many new joys and
accomplishments and a continuation of the good things that
you have already achieved.
